A Little Quarantine Fun

Seven-ish weeks of sheltering-in-place and I have (mostly) moved past anxiousness and have landed in the realm of boredom. So I thought it would be fun to answer some not-so-typical questions. Here goes nothing.

Just Another (Emotional) Day

I wake up to nature’s alarm clock—my two children begging for milk and Cheerios. It’s a Tuesday I think. Or Thursday? Day 8. Day 18? Who knows anymore? We’re in an alternate universe where schools are closed and toilet paper is a hot commodity.

Turn the Page

It is Day 7 of sheltering-in-place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Day 7 of trying to keep my children entertained and healthy, and keeping myself sane. On top of that, we have a 3-month old puppy that wants to chew up everything in sight. Although I’m an introvert and love being home cuddled up on the couch, even I have my limits. And knowing I CAN’T really go anywhere even if I wanted to…well that is apparently one of my limits.

What I Learned in Maui

I recently got back from a trip to Maui with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. It was six days, five nights of relaxation, fun, and glorious sunshine. It’s taking me awhile to get back into the swing of things at home, so I thought I’d reflect a little on my experience. And then maybe I can mentally join the real world again. Maybe.

I Love to Write Day

Always Remember

I can still remember exactly what I was doing when the world changed. I was sitting on the couch, eating Eggo waffles, and watching TV before school. When I saw the footage of a plane hitting one of the World Trade Center towers, my first thought was that it was an accident. A terrible and tragic one, but an accident nonetheless. Terrorism just wasn’t on my radar. But then I saw the that other tower had been hit by a plane as well. Something wasn’t right.

The Helpers

The accident played out like a slow-motion action scene in a blockbuster summer movie. A blown tire, the car spinning to the right, wheel cranked to the left, overcompensating. A deafening crash into the guardrail, sparks raining down as it flew into the air.

National Book Lovers Day

All my fellow bibliophiles rejoice! Today is National Book Lovers Day. Whether you prefer the classics or fantasy, hardcover or ebooks, dog-eared pages or bookmarks doesn’t matter (actually, folding page corners is kind of a crime against humanity, but you do you). What does matter is our shared love of the written word.
