My oldest daughter has recently added a new item to our nightly bedtime routing–telling us a story… As I listen to a new tale each night, I find myself marveling at her imagination. And I wish I could loosen the reins on my inner editor, not worrying about judgement from others, just letting the story tell itself as my children do.

I recently read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, a beautiful coming-of-age story about a young girl who grows up in a North Carolina marsh. This book ran me through a gamut of emotions. Anger, hope, admiration, frustration, sorrow, joy. One question I kept circling back to was ‘how can a mother abandon her children’?
